Blogtober rolls around every October. Bloggers look forward to it, as do blog readers. This will be my first time participating in Blogtober, however. I am a little bit nervous about the challenge, but I have decided to go for it!

After all, 2020 has been one non-stop crisis after another. We need a little fun!

In this post I will explain what Blogtober is, why I decided to join the event, and what I hope to accomplish. During October, posts will continue to focus on creative ways to catch-up retirement savings, along with some fun Blogtober ideas that will make you smile.

What is Blogtober?

Most bloggers participating in Blogtober write an initial post describing what Blogtober is. A lot of people have not heard of Blogtober, so it helps to explain the concept and highlight the topics that will be covered. Many bloggers like to share their reasons for participating in the Blogtober blogging challenge, too.

So, what exactly is it?

First and foremost, Blogtober is a writing challenge. Bloggers bravely commit to creating daily blog posts for the entire month of October. I do believe bravery (or maybe extreme optimism) plays a huge role for every blogger who contemplates participating in Blogtober.

I know that is true for me. Just call me overly optimistic!

Secondly, although many bloggers focus on a theme, such as Halloween or Fall, set topics are not required. The only requirement is to publish daily blog posts for 31 days. This can be tough to do! In addition to blogging about creative ways to catch-up retirement savings, I will also focus on ideas for saving money, improving health, and budget-friendly family entertainment.

Finally, Blogtober is an activity that bloggers from around the globe participate in, so it can be a fun way to connect with others. Just try a general search for “Blogtober” on the internet and you will discover a wealth of fun and entertaining posts to read. You may even discover blog hops, where bloggers link to each other’s Blogtober posts.

Why I Decided to Join Blogtober This Year

If you have been following Baby Boomer Super Saver for a while, you are probably aware that my posting schedule has been a little sporadic. I had good intentions to publish lots of content about creative ways to catch-up retirement savings.

Frankly, I have found it difficult to carve out time to write this year with everything that has been happening in 2020. It has been a tough year with the global pandemic, politics, and the necessary spotlight on our country’s struggle with racism. On top of all that, my dad passed away. Yeah, it’s been a tough year.

I was looking for a little positivity, and Mrs. P&P from Problems and Projects encouraged me to join her in the Blogtober challenge. Taking on a light-hearted activity is just what I need. Hopefully, the daily writing challenge will also give me the structure to publish blog posts more consistently.

What I Hope to Accomplish

Once I get into the habit of writing and posting daily, my goal is to continue posting at least once a week going forward, beyond Blogtober. I am open to guest posts, too! Hit me up if you would like to write a guest post. Especially if you were behind in your retirement savings but were able to catch-up after a late start.

The following interviews feature people who thought they were going to be facing a very grim retirement. However, they found creative ways to bridge the gap and discovered it was not too late to catch-up retirement savings.

In addition to more consistent blogging output, I hope to grow the readership of Baby Boomer Super Saver. It would be fantastic to share the message with a wider audience that it is not too late to catch-up retirement savings! Be sure to subscribe to the blog and let me know what you are doing to catch-up your retirement savings in the comments below.

Summary

Blogtober is a writing challenge that requires daily blog posts for the entire month of October. Hopefully, I will come away from this massive undertaking with new blogging habits. What topics would you like to read about during Blogtober? Let me know in the comments below.

Have you ever joined in a writing challenge? I participated in Blogmas, a blogging challenge that is held in December, but I didn’t post every day. This time, I have my fingers crossed that I will do better. Wish me luck and be sure to keep me going with your comments!

  1. I could never write a well researched mental health and wellness blog post every single day for a month. There’s only so many topics you can cover, unless you do it like a life style blogger where you have freedom to write about whatever you want

  2. I’m so excited to find so many people doing this writing challenge this month. I tend to do smaller daily posts and longer weekly posts. I didn’t know if I should keep to a fall or October theme. What are your thoughts on this?

Hope to find more good stuff on your site this month! Good luck with your quest of finishing blogtober off with a bang!

  3. This is a very interesting idea. However, I got to be prepared for it haha. Since I don’t do reviews or any easy things. Projects take a lot of time and can’t do it every day haha.

  4. Good for you for doing this. I look forward to reading your posts. Good luck with the challenge!

I’m not doing Blogtober but I am planning to do Blogmas this year.

  5. Blogtober isn’t an easy challenge, so good for you for even considering it!

I dream of doing a blogging challenge like this, but at the moment, it’s not even remotely possible! Maybe one day…

I look forward to all your new content in October! Best of luck with your challenge. 👍

  6. I just launched this blog in February of this year, so it’s the first time that I have had the opportunity to do a pet-related Blogtober. It’s A LOT of work but, at the same time, I’m loving it! I can’t wait to see what else you share this month…

  7. I’ve seen so many people talking about blogtober on Twitter lately, but I had no idea what it was. I started blogging in May, and I am so new to all of these blogging conventions. You’re right that it is tough to blog every day. Even blogging weekly on top of school is a challenge for me. I will probably have to sit this one out, but I am excited to see what everyone else writes for October! Thanks for sharing!

  8. Yes, we all must definitely just need something fun and enjoyable right now. Looking forward to all that Blogtober has to offer. Thanks for the shout out!

  9. This is awesome Kathy! I joined even later than you! I had thought of doing blogtober and thought there was no way I could manage it, but then got so inspired by all of you guys and decided on the 5th that I’d blog about my happiness project everyday until my bday on Oct. 30th. So not quite the full and not fall tethered, but I think I’ll learn a lot! Best of luck, I’m looking forward to reading your blogtober posts!
