Blogmas?

Before I started blogging just over a year ago, I had never heard of Blogmas.  Some of you may have heard of Blogmas already, or maybe you’ve even participated in it.  For others, it may be a completely new idea.

Let’s explore Blogmas together!

In this post I’ll explain what Blogmas is and highlight some of the holiday topics I plan to write about during December, including money saving ideas, crafting herbal gifts from the heart, and giving yourself the gift of a richer retirement.

What is Blogmas?

From December 1st through 25th, bloggers across the globe write about holiday topics and publish their thoughts daily.  Blogmas is a celebration of holiday cheer, with many bloggers sharing gift-giving ideas, money saving tips, and favorite recipes of the Christmas season.

Why I Wanted to Participate in Blogmas

I’ve written before about the challenges of blogging.  Many blogs don’t last a year.  For my 6-month blogiversary, I wrote about giving myself permission to go slow.  I didn’t want to crash and burn by overloading myself with the expectation that I would publish blog posts a couple times per week while working full-time and side hustling.  As a result, there have been some months I didn’t post at all.

Am I setting myself up for failure by thinking I can participate in Blogmas?  The idea of creating a blog post every day for 25 days in a row until Christmas sounded almost overwhelming to me.  Yet, I see Blogmas as an opportunity.  It may provide just the structure I need to help me get into the habit of writing more often.

Writing a blog has been a fun adventure.  I think kicking up my posting schedule by participating in Blogmas will help me continue to grow Baby Boomer Super Saver.

It’s also been gratifying to watch the growth of the blog.  I’ve been blown away by the number of comments and it gives me a thrill every time someone shares one of my posts on Twitter or Facebook.

Interacting with readers has been one of the biggest joys of blogging.  I never expected to find such an amazing community of encouraging, supportive people until I started writing about my journey to catch up our retirement savings.

List of Ideas

Since I’ll be posting more often during December, some of my posts may be shorter.  How-to posts will feature more photos with step-by-step instructions to help you create the best gifts that money can’t buy!  I hope you’ll funnel the money you save by crafting gifts from the heart into your retirement fund!

Blogmas will feature herbal craft projects and tips on where to buy supplies.

Here’s some of the ideas I plan to write about during Blogmas, but I’m open to your ideas as well.

  1. Your plan for Blogmas sounds great!! And I think every blogger puts pressure on themselves, especially me! I almost didn’t do Blogmas for fear of failing at it, but if I didn’t try it would be a definite failure! If I did attempt it, I could at least say I tried. So I commend you for taking part as well!!

    1. Thanks, Kristen! Yeah, it’s hard not to put pressure on ourselves. Recognizing there is only so much we can do is important. At this time of the year, with all the extra holiday activities, it’s more important than ever to take care of ourselves and manage stress.

  2. You’ve got some great ideas and suggestions here, I particularly like the notion of posting about finding balance at Christmas, and also about budgeting/saving money at this time of year. Great post and all the best with the rest of your Blogmas content!

  3. So…after reading your list of posts, I’m so excited to read them! I love reading blogs, but budgeting ones have always been my favorite. I’m awful at budgets but love to educate myself. I’m doing blogmas as well and planned my posts, I even have a few scheduled, but it’s starting to catch up to me. I’m taking your idea and going to go slow, sometimes we need it. Great post!

    Cheers xx

    1. Happy Holidays, Rachel! I’ll look forward to checking out your Blogmas posts as well. I’m not sure how I’ll do about posting every day, as writing these first two posts already took longer than I expected, lol. Take it easy, it’s certainly OK to go slow.
